Video game sales in Belgium reach €698M in 2024

Brussels, March 25, 2025 – Around three quarter of a billion* worth of video game software, services and devices were sold in Belgium last year, demonstrating the ongoing popularity of video games among the millions of gamers in our country. The 698 million is a 12% increase compared to 2023, when €623 million worth of video game software, services and devices were sold in our country.

“Belgium continues to be a video game powerhouse with upward sales across the board,” says David Verbruggen, General Manager of Video Games Federation Belgium. “Looking in detail at full software sales, 72% of those are digital downloads**, which means Belgium is lagging the worldwide trend of around 85% digital software downloads. We also notice that during the busy end-of-year period, more full physical games (in packaging via physical or online retailers) are sold, because a box sits nicer under the Christmas tree. The turnover generated by full physical software sales is about half lower than the turnover of full digital software downloads.”

In addition to publishing the top 5 best-selling video games and devices in the country in 2024, Video Games Federation Belgium is also, for the very first time, revealing the top 5 most played pc and console video games, based on monthly active users. This chart mainly contains video games that can be downloaded for free, for which no sales figures are available and that are played a lot.

Finally, and thanks to all its trusted data partners, Video Games Federation Belgium can also reveal top 5 charts for most sold accessories and prepaid cards, most downloaded and highest grossing mobile games as well as most live streamed video games.

Here is some additional explanation of our charts and numbers:

In our pc top 5 we see that price promotions and updated versions can push popular older games back into the charts. For example, Command & Conquer: Generals was released in 2003 but in 2024 the game easily reaches 4^th
Striking in the top 5 of best-selling devices: the Sony PlayStation 4 console, available in Belgium from the end of 2013, still achieves a 4^th My Arcade, in 5^th position, are officially licensed devices to play old (retro) games from publishers such as Capcom, Bandai Namco, Atari and SEGA.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the notable absentee from our figures as Larian Studios doesn’t share official sales data.
We do on the other hand know that Baldur’s Gate 3 retains 1^st place in our top 5 of most live streamed Belgian video games. Our top 5 of most live streamed international video games is almost the same as last year. Newcomer at No5 is Call of Duty: Warzone. This chart is all about consumers who watch video games, being played by others, live on channels such as Twitch and YouTube.

**Nintendo does not share digital sales with Sparkers’ Games Sales Data (GSD). Therefore, we neither include Nintendo’s physical sales in this comparison, as this would make the share of physical sales appear higher than it actually is.
